Okay, pictures

Ano na. Okay, pictures, yay. First thing's first, my Sockapal2za socks came! All the way from Ottawa from one of the many Jennifers in the swap (Seriously, there were like 10 'Jennifer' based names on the list). I tried them on, and they fit just perfectly. They've also got a sort of checkered textured pattern on the leg as well as some like eyelets just under the rolled cuff. Not only that, but as you can see, a postcard, some straight needles with decorative heads - one set is a flower, the other is a watermelon. And of course, the rainbow-colored yarn! It's Koigu Kersti merino crepe. I've never used it before, and it has a very interesting texture, sort of like cable. I'll have to find a suitable project for it. All in all, I'm rather pleased and my thanks go out to my sockpal! I'm looking forward to a 3rd sockpal swap, if there is one...

And while the past few days most of my knitting has been boring sock knitting, I have gotten a few repeats into the revised scarf for my granma. I am having far more success with this pattern than I had with the other. In the picture, it's really hard to get color quality accurate. In reality, it's a much lighter purple, and the sections that look sort of like shadows are actually the very subtle color variations in the dyejob on the yarn. But because I often don't have the patience or concentration required for lace, this scarf is mostly getting worked on during the weekends, so it's a bit slow going.

Then, there's some sock yarn I dyed up well over a month ago. The first came out perfectly. Going with the theme I started with my orange-and-green Gekiai Lida socks, I've made... Gekiai Aya yarn! Normally? I am not a fan of pink. Especially pastel pinks mixed with pastel blues. But oh, it came out so perfect in the colors of his costume that I'm just beyond pleased. I am considering doing skeins in Daishi, seek, and Yura-sama themed colors... the problem is that Yura-sama's would come out looking vaguely Christmas-y (his costume is red, with accents in green, black, gold and white) and Daishi's costume is, well, black and white.

The second skein in the citrusy/sunset colors I completely and totally blame on my obsession with Rip Slyme's Rakuen Baby and the video for it. "Koko natsu no rakuen baby, koko natsu no sunshine crazy", from the chorus loosely translates to "This summer's paradise baby, this summer's sunshine crazy" and the video is filled with all sorts of beachy summer imagery... I really need to do a translation of the song, because I'm curious to tranlsate more than just a few of the lines in the chorus and bits and pieces here and there. Over the past few weeks I've become a total Rip Slyme fan. It's weird as fuck, because I generally don't like hip hop, but theirs isn't the angry yelly gangsta-style rap of recent years in American music, but more reminiscient of the old school stuff from the late 80's and early early 90's.
