Yuki. This picture is probably from spring of this year. Before she got the tumor, when she still looked healthy. Here she is, sitting on my computer chair, with a dpn she actually pulled out of a sock I was working on. She actually did that sort of thing more than once, and she even chewed a hole in my knitting as I was working on it once before I realised what she was doing. Then again, probably half my tshirts have ragged collars because of her.
In less depressing news, the scarf for my granma is finished. Here's a pic of it blocking last night, on some towels in front of the TV. The finished length is probably about 56 or 57 inches - but my granma is only about 5 feet tall, so it should be good. And no matter what I do, I cannot get a good picture of the damn thing with the flash on. The color always comes out looking too dark. So, even though this picture on the right is crap quality, because I used flash
in front of a mirror and there's all sorts of light reflecting about, it shows the color most accurately, and you can even see the subtle variations in the purple. I think it came out well for my first extensive lace project, but god do I hate blocking. So do my thumbs, from shoving all those pins through a towel and into the carpet.
Finally, Socktoberfest progress. First off, the razor shell sock has grown some. It's going along well, right now I have 19 of the 26 rows for the leg. The pattern calls for a 1 1/2 size pair of dpns... I didn't even know they made 1 1/2. In any case, I'm using a pair of size 2s, because the pattern says it's for a medium size woman's foot, and there is probably nothing medium size about me.
Next up is the mexico socks - last time I took a pic of these, they were nothing but a little bit of blue yarn on needles, but I've done a lot of work with them - I am just about done with the leg and ready to start the heel flap. The patterning on them is interesting. I'm not really sure I like the colors as much as I thought I would, but I do like how the band that starts out orange fades to yellow. The yarn is nice enough to work with, so. And the bright koigu socks are finished. As usual with finishing a pair of s
ocks, I put them on and just wore them for a few hours. It'll be interesting to see how they feel in shoes. I really like the colorways Koigu has, so I'll probably buy more yarn to make socks with. Of course, as soon as I freed up that pair of needles, I immediately cast on some new sock yarn. This time I'm using some stuff I dyed around the same time that I dyed the green and orange yarn for my Lida socks. There's nothing really to see yet, just a stub of maybe 3 or 4 rows, so no pictures.
And I did get this in the mail a few days ago: The pattern is the sock memories shawl, but the yarn is the sock garden in Daffodil. I've already cast it on - with the needles freed up from the granma scarf. Right now it's just 10 inches of garter stitch, so it's nothing worth taking a picture of yet.

YAYYAYYAY!! Your Razor shell socks are looking so fabulous! I'm glad to see people knitting my pattern! I hope you like it when it's done. What yarn are you using?
I forgot to say. Size 1.5's are only available from a few manufacturers. Crystal Palace is my favorite for them. Size 1 is 2.25 mm and 2 is 2.75 mm and 2.5 mm (Size 1.5) is just perfect for most sock yarns, I think. :)
Thanks for stopping by! I'm using the sock memories yarn from knitpicks, I think the colorway is called 'fly fishing' or something of the like.
And that would also explain why I haven't seen size 1 1/2 needles before!
Knits are looking good!
Simply Socks Co, Wooly West, and Red Bird Knits have the half size needles. I never see them in my LYS, so I think they might be a little hard to find.
Yuki was a very cute rat.
