past the heel

So, I've completed the leg and turned the heel on the first sock. Actually, this pic is a few days old, I'm now into the decreases along the gusset... One thing I've been worrying about is making sure that the socks will fit. See, my sock pal has significantly smaller feet than I do, by about 2 inches. Well, on one hand, I realise that that accounts for the feeling that 'man, I'm knitting this sock relatively fast' - of course it seems faster when I'm knitting smaller than my size (My size being about 6 foot tall, 250 pounds, size 12 shoes... Yeah, nothing small about me - I guess it means I shouldn't feel so bad when I see people who have a 36" chest finishing sweaters in a week - I'm not necessarily slow, I'm just a lot bigger than them). I've been measuring the socks obsessively already, even though I'm nowhere near having to worry about whether or not they'll be too big or too small.

Other than that, I have some progress on the work sock. You know, that project you carry with you everywhere and only really work on when you have time to spare? Mine's almost always a sock, lives at the bottom of my PLC bag, and usually only gets any attention in the parking lot at work if I get there a little early. Anyway, that sock is past the gusset and into the foot, now.

Then... not much else. No further progress on the granma blanket since last weekend - it's hovering around 37" long now. I'm thinking that at 4 feet, it will be finished. This is because I've tested it out by draping it across my own lap, and - once again, significantly bigger than everyone, including my granma who probably only weighs about 100 pounds - it covers my lap with room to spare on each side and easily goes down to mid-calf. I'm probably 1/2 way through the fourth ball and am glad I bought more - although I don't think I'm going to need the sixth.
